Maria and Con who own the local fruit shop always make a big fuss of Winter when we visit. We usually hang out for 1/2 hr or so whilst Maria cuddles Winter and lets him play with the cash register. Con always give Winter a banana or mandarin to take home.

Below are photos of local man about town Alex playing with Winter outside the shop.

Are Grapes Fruit?

Rich asked me this question the other day.

I said 'what do you mean, what else would they be?' I couldn't believe he was serious. Then I realised he was being genuine so I added a rusty piece of science to help him along, wisely explaining that the difference between fruit and vegies can be established by whether they had seeds or not i.e. no seeds = vegies, seeds = fruit. To this he exclaimed 'Does that mean watermelons are fruit?'.

This had me in fits of laughter as Rich has always had a funny frui/vegi dyslexia. He gets very confused by things at the supermarket esp when I request he find me something like a cucumber or a mandarin. Turns out he thought that watermelons were simply 'melons' not fruit. I'm not sure what he thought grapes would be if they wern't fruit.

The seeds/no seeds explaination did not help things. He proceeded to get upset about pumpkins and tomatoes being fruit (understandable I guess). Posted by Picasa

Growing up

Winter is beginning to engage in imaginative play. He often plays with pots & spoons etc but yesterday he seem to be using them in a different, more purposeful way. He appeared to be pretending to cook.

Wet

We met up with Kim & Evie at the playground but had to retreat to the nearest cafe when it started to bucket down.

Advanced parenting

Today we went out despite the rain. I was pleased with myself for remembering to bring a towel so we could dry off the swings and slide.

Chaos

Living with a very busy, curious toddler means that house is continually messy. Objects are forever being dismantled then randomly distributed into every nook and crany. As soon as I gather things together, I turn my back and they are upended again. Sometimes for 5 mins worth of peace & quiet I turn a blind eye.

This was once a nice neat roll of paper towel. Posted by Picasa

Playgroup

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 local mums and bubs gather at the Rushcutters pre-school for a play/chat session. Topics today included gastro horror stories, homemade teething remedies (soak cloves in organic olive oil) and nightime settling tips. Meanwhile the toy cars were in popular demand along with the playdough, wheelbarrows, and the toy baby/stroller combos. The last couple of get togethers had been cancelled due to wet weather so today's sunny session was greatly appreciated by all.

Vacuum Fetish

Winter is fascinated by the vacuum cleaner. The noise gives him the heebie jeebies but he is still determined to get the sweeping action mastered.

Motorhead

Winter has recently rediscovered his car. His feet now touch the ground so he can move himself along.
The steering wheel conveniently has buttons with horn, ignition, cat, dog and music sound effects. The steat lifts up to reveal secret storage compartments with extra buttons and things for fiddling with. Overall its a big hit. Posted by Picasa
